Abu Dhabi: The New Trend in the UAE

#BlackGirl Travel Movement to the Middle East!

Sheikh Zayed Mosque-Abu Dhabi

It's November 22, 2016.  I had just made my away across the ocean to explore what all the fuss was about in the United Arab Emirates.  Was it a little pricey? Heck yes.  But was it absolutely worth it?  Absolutely.  I am fortunate enough to have been born a winter baby.  So what that means is a lot of things are less expensive in the winter..including #travel.  It's the not the busy hustle and bustle of the summertime.  Kids are out of school and parents take their vacations from work to spend time with their kids who are on those vacations.  I made a vow to travel internationally at least once a year and I chose my birthday.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi was by far the best thing about my trip to the Middle East.  While Dubai has amazing architecture and opportunities for extravagant shopping it didn't hold a place in my heart as much as Abu Dhabi.  I learned more about the culture and religion of the people in the United Arab Emirates. Upon entering the Mosque I ensured my head was properly covered as well as my body.  I borrowed an Abaya from a friend, however, the mosque will provide one in order to enter. Once inside, they offer a guide and a tour of the mosque. They allow pictures so feel free to take as many pictures as you like. Entering into the prayer room shoes must be removed and their will be faint sounds of the Quran being read the entire time. My favorite time was just as it was approaching dusk or the golden hour. The sun sets ever so gently behind the pillars of the mosque.
